Behind the scenes photography during filming of Endeavour series 5 episode 2 in Oxford. I’ve carefully selected a spoiler-free set of images from this roll, others will follow once the episode has been broadcast in 2018. The film I used here is Eastman Double X motion picture film which I usually develop in Kodak D76 but I don’t have any of that mixed at the moment so on this occasion I used HC-110. I’ve previously used HC-110 at 1+31 dilution with Double X but I find the contrast is too high for my liking so here I’ve experimented with a 1+62 dilution and I much prefer these results.
[Tech info:] Leica M6, Voigtlander 40/1.4 lens, Eastman Double X film developed in Kodak HC-110 1+62, Pakon scans.
You can the actors…oh yesss…so amazing photos…..;)
Nasir, here in the U.S. we have only seen the first 2 episodes of Season 5. I have always loved this show but in these 2 episodes, the cinematography is so different (better) than previous seasons. I think it is better and edgier than any BBC show I can remember. Are you the one responsible for that?
Marc, the Director of Photography (DOP) is the person that sets the look and feel of the episodes. Usually there is a different Director and DOP on each episode but the 2 episodes you mentioned had the same DOP – Joel Devlin. I believe this is the only time a DOP has worked on more than 1 episode of Endeavour.
