Oxford Union – Kurupt FM Q&A

Written by Nasir Hamid on January 17th, 2019

Kurupt FM (AKA the guys from the BAFTA award winning comedy series ‘People just do nothing’) came to the Oxford Union for a Q&A event and I went along to photograph them. If you’ve never seen the show I highly recommend it – you can find it on BBC iPlayer.

Oxford: Endeavour 5, FILM 1 – part 6

Written by Nasir Hamid on December 25th, 2018

Behind the scenes during filming of Endeavour series 5, FILM 1 in Oxford on 30th October 2017. Despite the overcast looking light I think it was fairly bright on this day because I used a relatively slow film, certainly slower than I usually would on a dull day. It was nice not to be fighting contrast for a change.

[Tech info:] Konica Hexar AF, Ilford FP4, developed in Kodak HC110 1+31. Pakon scans.

Here are some pictures made during filming of Endeavour series 6, episode 4 in Oxford. As the series hasn’t been broadcast in the UK yet I’ve picked a selection of spoiler free pictures. More will follow after broadcast.

Mapledurham at War 2018 – part 2

Written by Nasir Hamid on December 2nd, 2018

Here are some portraits I made at a WWII re-enactment event in Mapledurham back in the summer. The weather was overcast which was perfect for the colour palette and colour negative film I was using. These shots are all from the same roll of film through my Rolleiflex 2.8F. Part 1 of my portraits can be found here, made with the same camera but different film. More to come.

[Tech info:] Rolleiflex 2.8F, Portra 160VC film (expired).

Bicester: sunday scramble – part 2

Written by Nasir Hamid on November 12th, 2018

Some pictures from the first Sunday Scramble of this year, held at Bicester Heritage Centre. This roll ended up in the camera for 10 months with one frame remaining so it’s nice to see these shots, finally.

[Tech info:] Fuji 6×9, 90/3.5, Fuji 400H (expired), Noritsu scans.

Oxford: Endeavour 6, FILM 4 – part 2

Written by Nasir Hamid on November 7th, 2018

Behind the scenes during filming of Endeavour 6 | FILM 4 in Oxford, October 2018. Day 1 of filming ended on Holywell Street in rapidly falling light thanks to the clocks changing back an hour the previous day. This is something I had anticipated and loaded a roll of Kodak Portra 400 accordingly. Day 2 started on New College Lane in very contrasty sunlight.

[Tech info:] Leica M6, 40/1.4 Voigtlander Nokton, Kodak Portra 400, Noritsu scans.

Oxford: Endeavour 6, FILM 4 – part 1

Behind the scenes during filming of Endeavour 6 | FILM 4 in Oxford, October 2018. Teddy Hall was the location for this scene on a very chilly and overcast morning. Usually I wouldn’t push my film to ISO 1600 under daylight conditions but I wanted to see how HP5 would handle the contrast as well as having the flexibility to have a deeper depth of field than I would usually.

[Tech info:] Leica M6, 40/1.4 Voigtlander Nokton, Ilford HP5 pushed to ISO 1600 by Ag Photo lab, Pakon scans.

Oxford: Endeavour 6, FILM 3 – part 1

Behind the scenes during filming of Endeavour series 6, FILM 3 in Oxford. I only managed to catch the last few hours of this day’s filming but in order to avoid spoilers I only have a handful of shots to share from this roll at the moment. As usual, I will post more after broadcast.

[Tech info:] Leica M6, 40/1.4 Voigtlander Nokton, Kodak Portra 400, Noritsu scans.

Oxford Union: Dave Chappelle and Jon Stewart

Written by Nasir Hamid on November 2nd, 2018

US comedians Dave Chappelle and Jon Stewart came to the Oxford Union for a Q&A event and I went along to photograph. The lighting conditions were quite challenging with so much back light but I increased the exposure to lift the shadows and trusted HP5 to handle the contrast – which it did very well. I thoroughly enjoyed the event but as the usual video crew were not there I don’t think the video will show up on the Oxford Union YouTube channel.

[Tech info:] Leica M6, 40/1.4 Voigtlander Nokton, Ilford HP5 @ ISO 1600, developed by Ag Photo lab, Pakon scans.
