Oxford: Endeavour 6, FILM 2 – part 4

Sunday, April 7th, 2019

This set of behind the scenes photography is from the first Oxford filming day for Endeavour S6 in July 2018 – during the heatwave.  For the first time the episodes were filmed out of sequence and this was FILM 2 – APOLLO, directed by Shaun Evans. For a change I used my Leica Summicron 50mm lens because I’ve found it works very well with colour films but is quite flat with b&w and I planned to use a lot more colour film for this series.

[Tech info:] Leica M6, 50/2 Summicron, Fuji Superia 200 film, Noritsu scans.

Oxford twilight vintage bus rides

Friday, April 5th, 2019

I’ve been looking for the right light conditions to test out some Lomography 800 colour film that I recently bought and after a friend tipped me off about the twilight vintage bus rides I knew that was it. A couple of years ago I photographed them on Fujichrome 64T tungsten balanced slide film but because the film speed was so slow I had to use a tripod the whole time. On this occasion I wanted the freedom to move around handheld so I went along with fast film and a fast lens.

[Tech info:] Nikon F100, 50/1.2 lens, Lomography 800 film, developed and scanned by FilmDev. Noritsu scans.

Oxford: Endeavour 6, FILM 4 – part 4

Tuesday, April 2nd, 2019

This set of pictures is from the newly built interior set for Castle Gate police station in Endeavour series 6. This was the penultimate day of filming and as most of the filming was taking place in the mortuary I had a chance to photograph the empty set.

[Tech info:] Leica M6, 35/1.2 Voigtlander Nokton, Ilford HP5 @ ISO 1600, developed in Kodak XTOL 1+1. Pakon scans.

Oxford: Endeavour 6, FILM 3 – part 2

Tuesday, February 26th, 2019

Behind the scenes photography during filming of Endeavour 6, FILM 3 – CONFECTION. The location for the day was the Oxford Union – these pictures are from the William Morris room which is decorated in beautiful Willam Morris wallpaper. I have photographed inside this room many times because the OUABC team use it to warm up in for the Town vs Gown boxing competition. The Endeavour art department did a wonderful job of transforming this room and I’ll post more detailed pictures soon.

[Tech info:] Rolleiflex 2.8F, Zeiss Planar, Kodak Portra 400 film. Noritsu scans.

Oxford: Endeavour 6, FILM 1 – part 5

Monday, February 4th, 2019

Behind the scenes during filming of Endeavour 6 | FILM 1 – Pylon. This was a scene that didn’t make the final cut where Morse and Bright chat on the steps outside the Castle Gate police station. Filmed in Oxford, August 2018.

[Tech info:] Leica M6, Zeiss Biogon 35/2.8, Fuji Superia 200. Noritsu scans.

Oxford: Town vs Gown Boxing 2019 – part 1

Friday, February 1st, 2019

The annual Oxford Town vs Gown boxing event was held at the Oxford Union at the end of January and I went along to document it with my camera. The lighting was far from ideal with lots of hot spots and dark shadows from the spot lights in the corners of the ring so I used the situation to experiment a little. The majority of these shots were made with a slow shutter speed to record some blur as the boxers moved around at great speed. More to come.

[Tech info:] Leica M6, 40/1.4 Voigtlander Nokton, Eastman Double X, ISO 250, developed in D76 1+1. Pakon scans.

Oxford Union – Kurupt FM Q&A

Thursday, January 17th, 2019

Kurupt FM (AKA the guys from the BAFTA award winning comedy series ‘People just do nothing’) came to the Oxford Union for a Q&A event and I went along to photograph them. If you’ve never seen the show I highly recommend it – you can find it on BBC iPlayer.

[Tech info:] Leica M6, 40/1.4 Voigtlander Nokton, Ilford Delta 400 developed in Ilford DDX 1+4. Pakon scans.

Oxford: Endeavour 5, FILM 1 – part 6

Tuesday, December 25th, 2018

Behind the scenes during filming of Endeavour series 5, FILM 1 in Oxford on 30th October 2017. Despite the overcast looking light I think it was fairly bright on this day because I used a relatively slow film, certainly slower than I usually would on a dull day. It was nice not to be fighting contrast for a change.

[Tech info:] Konica Hexar AF, Ilford FP4, developed in Kodak HC110 1+31. Pakon scans.

Oxford: Endeavour 5, FILM 6 – part 7

Monday, December 17th, 2018

Behind the scenes photography from the final day of filming on Endeavour series 5. The entire day was spent inside the Cowley CID interior set and these shots are from the end of the day.

[Tech info:] Leica M6, 40/1.4 Voigtlander Nokton, Ilford HP5 pushed to ISO 1600, developed in Kodak XTOL. Pakon scans.

Oxford: Endeavour 6, FILM 4 – part 3

Friday, December 7th, 2018

Here are some pictures made during filming of Endeavour series 6, episode 4 in Oxford. As the series hasn’t been broadcast in the UK yet I’ve picked a selection of spoiler free pictures. More will follow after broadcast.

[Tech info:] Leica M6, 40/1.4 Voigtlander Nokton, Eastman Double X film developed in D76 1+1 dilution.

Mapledurham at War 2018 – part 2

Sunday, December 2nd, 2018

Here are some portraits I made at a WWII re-enactment event in Mapledurham back in the summer. The weather was overcast which was perfect for the colour palette and colour negative film I was using. These shots are all from the same roll of film through my Rolleiflex 2.8F. Part 1 of my portraits can be found here, made with the same camera but different film. More to come.

[Tech info:] Rolleiflex 2.8F, Portra 160VC film (expired).
